Diploma in Interior Design

This 18-month program provides a comprehensive foundation in design principles, visualization, and practical applications. Students will learn visual communication, sketching, color theory, digital design tools, and research methods. The course also covers concept development, mood board creation, presentation techniques, residential project design, and soft furnishing. In addition, students gain knowledge of anthropometry, ergonomics, and furniture design fundamentals. By the end of the program, learners will be equipped with creative, technical, and analytical skills to pursue careers in interior and spatial design.


Foundations of Design

Visual Designing:

  • Introduction to visual communication principles.

  • Basic drawing and sketching techniques (perspective, orthographic).

  • Color theory and application.

  • Introduction to digital design tools (e.g., SketchUp, basic Photoshop).

Elements of Design:

  • Line, shape, form, space, texture, color, value.

  • Exploration through hands-on exercises and visual analysis.

  • Understanding how elements contribute to overall design aesthetics.

Principles of Design:

  • Balance, rhythm, emphasis, proportion, unity, harmony.

  • Application of principles in composition and spatial arrangement.

  • Analysis of existing interiors to identify design principles.

Introduction to Research Study:

  • Basic research methodologies for interior design.

  • Information gathering from various sources (books, journals, online).

  • Developing observation and analytical skills.


Design Development and Presentation

Concept Development and Mood Board Creation:

  • Developing design concepts based on client needs and project requirements.

  • Creating mood boards to communicate design intent.

  • Using visual references and material samples.

Presentation Techniques:

  • Developing effective presentation skills (oral and visual).

  • Creating presentation boards and digital presentations.

  • Using design software for renderings and visualizations.

Project Design and Presentation (Residential):

  • Applying design principles to a residential interior project.

  • Developing floor plans, elevations, and 3D renderings.

  • Presenting the project to a simulated client.

Soft Furnishing:

  • Textiles, window treatments, and upholstery.

  • Fabric selection, pattern matching, and installation techniques.


Anthropometry

  • Study of human body measurements and their application in design.

  • Ergonomics and accessibility considerations.

  • Designing for user comfort and safety.

Furniture Design (Introduction):

  • Overview of furniture styles and history.

  • Basic furniture construction and materials.

  • Introduction to furniture design sketching and drafting.
